Why yes, I do have a very eclectic taste. XDD

Things Jeanette Winterson writes on her website:

So what is the answer? Is identity a deceit, a make-shift, and should we hurry to make any pattern we can? Or is there coherence, perhaps a beauty, if it were possible to find it? I would like to convince myself about myself but I cannot...

In between freezing and melting. In between love and despair.
I might have posted this already, but a. it's possible I haven't, and b. even if I have, some of you might have not seen it, and some of you weren't even on my flist in the first place, so, yeah, I'm repeating myself without remorse. :D Because you can't live not knowing about Bruno Schulz.

Through a dark apartment on the first floor of a tenement on the market square, every day of that whole great summer, there passed: the silence of shimmering veins of air, squares of radiance dreaming their fervid dream on the floor, a barrel organ melody struck from the deepest golden vein of the day, and two or three measures of a refrain played over and over again on a grand piano somewhere, swooning in the sunshine on the white pavements, lost in the fire of the deep day. Her housework done, Adela threw a shadow over the rooms, drawing down the linen blinds. Then the colours descended by an octave — the sitting room filled up with darkness as if plunged into the luminosity of the deep sea, still dimly reflected in mirrors of green, while all the torrid heat of the day went on breathing on the blinds, swaying gently to the reveries of the midday hour.

Bruno Schulz, Cinnamon Shops: August

"Squares of radiance dreaming their fervid dream on the floor". "The deepest golden vein of the day". "Swooning in the sunshine on the white pavements, lost in the fire of the deep day".

How much more perfect can you get at... uh, not even describing things, but, like, transmitting the images and sensations straight to the reader's brain? Not much, IMO. If you don't know what I mean by transmitting images straight into brain, if you can't feel it, <strike>then I'm not going to get it ;)</strike> then there's no way I'm going to be able to explain it to you, because Schulz just tends to leave me at a loss like that.
But I hope you do get it, after all. :p

Oh, and if there is someone who blows you away like that, feel free to share. Let's exchange the experience. :D

Blaise Zabini. My, I've just realized, favourite secondary character from, well, the Harry Potter fanon, mostly. Because, since he's a Slytherin, the canon probably portrays him as a moron.

I think he's like Eponine from Les Miserables. ;) I think he suffers from a one-sided crush on Draco Malfoy, one dating from, like, the moment they met as first-years on the Hogwarts Express, or in the parlour in the Malfoy manor, or in the gardens around the Zabini manor when the initially purely professional acquaintance of their fathers' gradually turned more private -- or wherever it was that they firt met.

They Had a Connection. And at first, it was completely platonic for both of them, and then it stayed so only for Draco.

I think Blaise wanted to try and stop what he saw starting to happen between Harry and Draco; he wanted - and maybe actually tried - to convince Draco he doesn't love Harry, and/or Harry doesn't love him; he tried to seduce him, to win him for himself, and maybe even almost succeeded, and they Had a Thing for a while.

And then he realized that Draco is never really going to be happy with him - that he's never going to be happy with anyone but Harry - and while Blaise was a Slytherin and had it in himself to be selfish and cruel, he also had it in himself to let the person he loved go where he knew they truly belonged.

Maybe he even helped them get together, in the end.

And then, say, he died in the war with Voldemort, coming to the good side with and mostly for Draco, and, finally, giving his own life for him.

Just like Eponine. ;)

Oh god. Now I really want a fanfic about this.

Also, this was, somehow, triggered by this gorgeous art by this amazing artist (she's also the author of this awesome Merlin fanart, omg, check her gallery right now :O)

And -- well, okay, actually, I have a complicated relationship with the songs in Glee: on one hand there are the ones from musicals, which I so don't have a problem with it makes me hyper, and then there are things like "Single Ladies", which I, normally, wouldn't even consider listening to if I could avoid it, and ...then they'll appear on Glee and here I'll go and listen to them, and even start learning the choreography (from the Kurt Version.
About this. Uh, wtf, fandom? Overreacting/misunderstanding/jumping to conclusions much?

Ok, for the record: My Opinion:

+ I don't think Bradley is homophobic. I didn't get this impression from that quote, nor from anything else he said/did, and, seriously, I need a lot more evidence to write somebody off as a homophobe. Especially that all the other things he said seem to indicate the opposite. Which is, btw, why fandom kinda annoys me at the moment. They seem to have been just waiting for somebody to slip and say/do something not 100% perfect. I don't like it when minorities/minority rights activists do it - getting so politically correct that they start end up as the aggressors, not the <strike>aggressed</strike> victims. I mean, really. Chill out, people. It's making us look ridiculous.

+ I think what Bradley meant was that he doesn't really feel like making out with Colin, with whom he's good friends. That's what I got from the tone in which he said it. It wasn't a big, serious statement. It was just something he said half-jokingly. Spontaneously. Without thinking. He's a Libra, they tend to be like that (I happen to have had one as a girlfriend, and I totally recognize a few common features between Bradley and her - ...er, shut up if you think this is the reason I'm so crazy about him, btw :P - and yeah, blurting out/doing things without thinking is one of them). :p Anyway, I'm really not surprised he's not exactly thrilled about the idea of doing a slashy scene with a good friend - I wouldn't be, either. Not because I'm homophobic - I'm not, I'm bisexual and have no problem with it whatsoever; on the contrary, I'm kinda... defiant about it :D - but because I wouldn't want to do it with somebody who is my friend, in the completely asexual, aromantic sense of the word. I'm not sure if I can explain why. It's just that even thinking about it feels completely wrong to me.

+ It seems that... a large part of the fandom actually expected something more-than-friendly to happen between Arthur and Merlin. Well, I didn't. As much as I'd love to. Because this show was not meant to be a tool in any sort of political/social campaign, and it's so loaded with stereotypes/inaccuracies/easy solutions anyway that I just ...gave up trying to treat it seriously the moment I watched the first episode. I don't expect it to be historically/mythologically accurate, I don't expect it to break stereotypes -- frankly, I don't expect it to be anything but fun.

Yes, ok, I think that's it.

What do you think?

A blessing for poor students (and other people who want to spend their money in a more interesting way than paying for their hotel room), and an awesome idea in general. From their FAQs:

the idea solidified when founder, Casey Fenton, got a cheap ticket to Iceland for a long weekend one April. With his ticket in hand, there was one problem: he had no place to stay and no desire to rot in a hotel all weekend and play Mr. Tourist. So, he came up with the 'brilliant' idea of spamming over 1500 Icelandic students in Reykjavik and asking them if he could crash on one of their couches. After exchanging emails with many of the students, he had several groups of friends offer to show him 'their' Reykjavik. So, after spending an amazing, crazy weekend just south of the Arctic Circle, Casey decided he would never again get trapped in a hotel and tourist marathon while traveling. From that point onward, it was all about crashing on exotic couches and cultural exchange. And, thus, the CouchSurfing Project was born.

Or Stardust. Gaiman... creates magic. Really.
I'm generally more intellectual than emotional, and thus rather tough and immune when it comes to thrills caused by descriptions/depictions of fictional events, and there are few writers who can really do something to me on the emotional level, but as much as I can't help DYING at the sight of Bradley's face, I can't do anything about the way Gaiman's writing immediately enchants me and chains me to the story. It's magic. It really is. :))

...NOW AS FOR FANFICTION. :D

As for fanfiction, I'm in an endless awe of the skills of the following authors:

+ Killa, the author of a Kirk/Spock fanfic that is such pure BEAUTY and PERFECTION that it's, hands down, one of my favourite pieces of fanfiction in any fandom, and maybe even of writing in general. And it had me emotionally involved, oh yes. I read the first part NOT KNOWING IT HAS A SEQUEL. If you read it, you know what it means. o.o If you haven't, I'll say that I literally couldn't sleep that night. And I'm generally tough and intellectual, mind you. I ...don't know what it could do to more emotional people. o.O

+ Maya, the author of unforgettable Harry/Draco fanfics, after reading which, for a long time, I wasn't capable of liking stories by anyone else. Reading Underwater Light ended as the first time in my life I went from not understanding why people like H/D to absolute craziness about it. And absolute LOVE for Draco Malfoy. Because you can't, you just CAN'T not love Maya's Draco.

+ Derryere, whose At Least It Would Seem That We Don't (which is totally one of my everlasting favs, too) was the first story over which I cried because it's so COMPLETELY and ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. Not because of angst. Because of beauty. And that was a first for me, too.

It's not like there aren't tons of other authors I love - especially in the Merlin fandom, that is a friendly and talented and generally positively-energized wonder ♥ - but I'm afraid that if I start listing them now, I'll never end this post. So I've just picked the cream of the cream.

Writing fanfiction and showing it to people is ok as long, as you don't profit financially from it, right? So how is charging for commissioned fanart ok, from the legal point of view? I've been thinking about it for some time and I keep ending up deciding that I don't see any difference between any forms of fannish creativity (fics, art, vids, craft, etc.), commissioned or not. I mean, if a commission made a difference, fanfiction writers could charge for fics written around plotbunnies provided by other fans, and so on.

I'm also wondering about translations - I mean, let's say I have a translation office, and somebody comes to me with a fanfic. Let's also say I'm not in the fandom and never heard of fanfiction before (which would prove my literature professors' lacks in knowledge of what's going on in contemporary literature, but nevermind ;)). As the author of a translation (for which I've been paid, obviously), not of the fanfic itself, am I breaking the law? I am confused.

- I had a dream with Bradley James in it, a few nights ago. Nothing ...scandalous, though. Pity. :(

- Then, the next night, I had a dream about Colin Morgan. Nothing scandalous, either, but as a Bradley-girl, I am not bothered.

- I still haven't seen ...er, the new Harry Potter (*has totally forgotten what is the title of the sixth Harry Potter o.o'* *this is probably because it's the only part of the cycle she has only in the form of an e-book, and when she read it, she had it borrowed from somebody, but still*). I also haven't seen the new Star Trek, so I'm getting a bit behind with the fandom. ;)

- I have recently seen 'Imagine Me and You', though, for the second time. Strangely enough - because I don't like to re-watch movies or re-read books (at least not from cover to cover - I just re-read and re-watch fragments that I especially like, from time to time) - I feel like I might watch it yet again. Given the fact that I harbor similar attitude towards 'I Am Dina' (go watch it, no, really, WATCH IT, if you haven't. It's an incredible movie) or 'Elizabeth', which belong to my favourite movies, it's seems that a romantic comedy has entered the list of my favourites, omg, honoez, how lowbrow.

(Watching movies like "Imagine Me and You" when you're not in a relationship is, btw, at the same time a bit comforting and a bit discomforting thing to do. ;)

What's definitely discomforting (but still lolarious) is mother not entering your room for the first hour of the movie (when noone kisses anyone, or if they do, they do it chastely, and heterosexually), and then entering precisely when the main characters start snogging furiously (and non-heterosexually) and rolling around on the floor.)

The cast of Going Postal has been anounced! And, well, I've never seen any of these people in action. XD So I'll just judge by the looks now. :p

I absolutely love the woman who's going to play Angua:

Here's a pic where she looks more ...Adora-Belle. ;)

...Who totally doesn't look like the Moist in my head (and in Kidby's art.
